D5 Coalition Guiding Principles for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

This statement of principles was developed to guide the leadership institutions of the D5 Coalition, setting an aspirational standard of operating practice as it relates to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The principles can be used as a guide for foundations and institutions as they engage in their own reflective process.


Taking Account of Race

In this 2008 speech at the Waldemar Nielsen Issue Forums in Philanthropy, Georgetown Public Policy Institute in Washington, Gara LaMarche, The Atlantic Philanthropies President and CEO, spoke about how foundations must take race into account in all of their work.


Race Inequity Frameworks Toolkit

This 2009 toolkit by Funders for LGBTQ Issues provides frameworks and approaches for understanding racial inequities in Policies, Programs and Grantmaking.


The Next Generation Speaks

This 2013 monograph by Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy (EPIP) provides a snapshot of the experiences and perspectives of emerging philanthropic professionals of color on issues of racial equity, collected from seven cohorts of participants in EPIP’s People of Color Network programming.
