D5’s Final State of the Work Released!

Posted on

We are excited to announce that D5’s final State of the Work, an annual report on the progress the field has made in advancing DEI, is out. The report features stories about leaders in foundations and other philanthropic organizations taking meaningful action to advance DEI. The report, which is available here, was released at the annual Council on Foundations conference in Washington, D.C., this past weekend.

For our final report, we wanted to leave the field with stories and voices of leaders who have taken action to advance DEI, which will hopefully inspire others to do the same.

“Storytelling is one of the most powerful ways to inspire action and change. We hope people working within foundations—whether they are a CEO, an HR manager or a program officer—draw on the important lessons from these stories, and apply them to their own unique situations.” – Kelly Brown, D5 Director

D5 is also taking an innovative approach to publishing the report. Over the next few weeks, D5 will publish the stories from the report on Medium, the online publishing platform. People can follow the online publication and access a growing library of stories by visiting https://medium.com/d5-coalition.

The people and organizations featured in this year’s State of the Work include:

  • The Meyer Memorial Trust
  • The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque
  • Sierra Club Executive Director, Michael Brune
  • The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council
  • The William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund
  • The Minnesota Council on Foundations
  • Lloyd A. Fry Foundation
  • Ana Valdez, philanthropist

Launched in 2010 as a five-year initiative, D5 has worked to help foundations and other philanthropic organizations recruit diverse leaders, identify the best actions for organizations to take, increase funding to diverse communities and improve data collection and transparency.
